Gas Laws

Definition

 The relationship between the volume of a given amount of a gas and the prevailing conditions of temperature and pressure are called gas law.

 Boyles law

 In boyles law the pressure and volume are variables while the T snd quantity of a gas remains constant .

 Definition

 The volume of a given mass of a gas at constant temperature is inversely proportional to the pressure applied to the gas.
 V proportional 1/p ( when the pressure and the number of moles are constant)
 V=k/p (=) K
K is a propodtionality constant. The value of k is digfdrent for the different amount of the same gas.
 According to the equation (1)
 Boyles can also be defined as the product of pressure and volume of a fixed amount of a.gas at a constant T is a constant quantity.
 So
 P1V1=k and P2V2=k
Hence P1V1=P2V2

 Experiment of boyles laws

 The following diagrams indicates that at constant T say at 25C° , the volume of a given quantity of a gas is reduced in proportion to the increase in pressure . Let us take a gas in a cylinder having a movable piston . The cylinder is attaxhed with yhe manometrr to rrad the pressure of the gas directly. Let the volume of gas is 1 dm^3 and its pressire is 2 atmosphere when the pisgon has one weight on it. When the piston is pressed twice when the help of two equal weights,the pressure became four atmosphere . Similar , when the piston is loaded with mass three times greater , then the oressure becomes six atmosphere .
The initial volume of the gas at two atmosphere is 1 ,dm^3 ,it is reduced to 1/2 dm^3 with increase of weights ,respectively.

 P1V1=2atm x 1dm^3=2dm^3atm=k

P2V2=4atmx1/2dm^3=2dm^3atm= k P3V3=6atm xdm^31/3=2dm^3atm=k
Hence boyles law is varified The value of k will remain the same for the same quantity of a gas at the same temperature.
